Ellerdine Fishing Report
March 3rd 2015
A truly awful day for the Monkey Match, with gales and torrential rain hampering catches, but certainly not the enthusiasm of anglers.
Match was run as the day before by a points system, if it was a tie on points at the end, the angler who caught off the most pegs won! Not the amount of fish!
Top rod catching 10 fish off 7 pegs for 17 points was England Loch style team manager Paul Angell, he used a mixture of nymphs and lures to take the cheque for £500.
A big well done to Peter Appleby (Northumberland) who never fished the lakes before, with 2nd with 11 fish off 6 pegs, for 17 points also.
3rd was Harry Upton with 8 from 6 pegs for 14 points.
Former World champion Iain Barr managed a top 10 place, but was more than satisfied with this 15lb fully finned trout off Marsh.
Rod average was a respectable 5 fish, which considering the amount of angler's on the last week was fairly impressive, with 6 doubles being landed during the match, all fish were returned.
Ed Upton won Saturdays heat of the World Bank Masters at Ellerdine, catching from an impressive 7 of his 10 pegs and having plenty of opportunities to catch on all. He ended up with 16 points piping Andrew Scott (Northumberland) who also had 16 points, Scotty caught 2 more but we reward the angler catching on most Pegs for consistency when level on points. 3rd was Roger Woodhams, (Hitchen) with 15 points taking a very impressive 7 fish from his last two pegs!! 4th was Welsh international David Hoppe with 12 points. A mix of nymphs and lures took the fish. Approx 4 doubles were caught. ALL fish were returned, the top four anglers go through to the grand final at Elinor Northampton next month for a chance of the £2000 1st prize.
Pleasure anglers have had some good bags to 25 fish, with a staggering amount of doubles being caught over the last week.
Thomas Ferriday had 2 doubles with the largest 15lb 5oz, in a 24 fish haul he used Buzzers and Nymphs under a indicator on Marsh.
John Finch Bridgnorth once again had a great day returning 20 fish on Buzzers, he also landed another fantastic Brown of around 8lbs on all the lakes.
With the weather now starting to warm up Buzzer and Nymph fishing will be fantastic at Ellerdine, expect the fish to start taking dries also.
